Doing a sequel is never easy: Sundar C

The director, along with the actors, talked about his upcoming film Kalakalappu 2

Published: 11th January 2018

During the promotions of Kalakalappu 2 in the city on Thursday, Jiiva said the film looks quite colourful and rich. "Watching the making video, I could remember all the fun we had at the shooting spot," he added.

The actor was all praise for Sundar C. "He told us to be natural. Apparently, from Ullathai Allitha days, he realised that acting serious only leads to unintentional comedy onscreen. We shot Kalakalappu 2 in two months without any breaks except for Diwali."

Jiiva also said the songs have come out well. "Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi has done a fantastic job on the songs, and each of them is from a different genre."

Speaking about the film, Sundar C said, a lot of people kept asking him when Kalakalappu 2 was going to happen. "Doing a sequel isn't easy as everyone will have expectations."

The film will have 20 main characters including 10 top comedians. "I believe everyone who loved Kalakalappu will love the sequel," the director added.

Sundar C talked about the difference between working on the original and the sequel. "When I came up with Kalakalappu, I was venturing into direction again after five years of trying my hand as an actor. So there were a lot of budgetary restrictions and the entire film was shot only in Kumbakonam. But with Kalakalappu 2, the market conditions were favourable for a bigger budget and a broader canvas, and the audience will see that in the rich texture of Kalakalappu 2, right from the songs to the entire film."

Finally, Sundar C also spoke about Sangamitra, his pet project. "We expect to go on floors with the film in April or May. The live-action shooting is the easier part whereas the pre-production involving graphics is much harder. We will make an announcement on that project soon."
