Actor-politician Nandamuri Harikrishna, son of late Andhra Pradesh chief minister NT Rama Rao, died in a road accident in Nalgonda today morning.

The 61-year-old was driving a Toyota Fortuner from Hyderabad to Nellore when the accident happened near Anneparthy village. Two others were present with him in the SUV. They suffered injuries and are undergoing treatment. They were on their way to attend a marriage in Nellore today.

The vehicle--suspected to be overspeeding--hit the median, rolled over and collided with a vehicle coming on the opposite side and a culvert. Passersby shifted a seriously injured Harikrishna to Kamineni Hospital, Narketpally. But he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Harikrishna's sons Junior NTR, Kalyanram and other family members rushed to Kamineni hospital. Andhra Pradesh CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu and family are also expected to reach hospital shortly.

On the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway, four years ago, Harikrishna's son Janakiram had also died in a similar road accident near Kodad. His other son, Tollywood star Junior NTR, was also seriously injured in a road accident on the same highway at Munagala in the year of 2009.

Harikrishna, the third son of former Chief Minister and actor late Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao made his acting debut as a child artist with Krishnavatharam (1967). He also co-produced his father's iconic film Dana Veera Soora Karna (1977) before turning a hero with Seetharama Raju (1999). He also featured in several hits like Sri Ramulayya, Lahiri Lahiri Lahirilo, Siva Rama Raju, Seethayya and Tiger Harischandra Prasad.  He was last seen in Sravanamasam (2005), also starring Krishna.

He served as a parliamentarian and was the polit bureau member of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) at the time of his death. His sons Kalyan Ram and NTR rushed to the hospital. Condolences from various political leaders poured in as soon as the news of Harikrishna's demise spread.
