Mammootty's character in Uncle has shades of grey
The film directed by Gireesh Damodhar has Karthika Muralidharan in the lead
Mammootty-starrer Uncle, the shoot of which has just wrapped up, is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The latest update on the project is that the actor will be playing a character with negative undertones.
Uncle, scripted by actor Joy Mathew, has Mammootty playing a middle-aged man named Krishna Kumar Menon aka KK. "His character is quite novel in a way. He plays Joy Mathew's friend and Karthika Muralidharan is Joy Mathew's daughter. Though his character has shades of grey, it is not an out-and-out villain character. For, Uncle is not a dramatic film, rather a realistic venture that explores relationships. Of course, it tackles a very serious issue too, which anybody can relate to," says director Gireesh Damodhar.
The film revolves around a trip KK takes with his friend's daughter. "Karthika plays an engineering student who travels with KK from Ooty to Kozhikode. This trip is a turning point in the story," he says.
Uncle also has Mammootty in a fresh avatar. "He sports an aged look with greying hair and a unique dressing style," says Gireesh. However, the director says this look wasn't a pre-planned one. "Mammookka loved the script and we decided to go on the floors. But, then we thought why not a new look."
Besides Mammootty and Joy Mathew, the movie also has Muthumani and Asha Sarath in important roles.
