‘Music is the most important thing in my life’

Parineeti Chopra thinks she’s lucky that she has “always landed great roles” in Bollywood. “I started with Ladies vs Ricky Bahl for which I won many awards. Then I did Ishaqzaade for which I won a National Award. By the grace of God, I have always got great roles,” says the actress.

She now thinks her fortune continues to stand her in good stead, as she has gotten a chance to sing for her next film—-and she takes her singing quite seriously.

The song in question, Maana ke hum yaar nahin from her forthcoming film Meri Pyaari Bindu, has fetched her a lot of appreciation.

“Anyone who knows me knows that music is the most important thing in my life. It is my soul. That’s why Meri Pyaari Bindu is a special film for me. I have always been keen that my first song be good.”

Parineeti was hoping it would be a big hit. “And that’s what has happened. It’s a beautiful track. People talk about it wherever I go and I’m very happy about it.”

Parineeti, known for featuring in films like Hasee tho Phasee, is returning to the silver screen after almost two years with Meri Pyaari Bindu.

“I took a break for nine months in 2015 because I was making my house and working on my fitness. After that, I signed Meri Pyaari Bindu and started shooting for it. But by the time you finish shooting and the film releases, another year goes by,” she says.

“I was getting a lot of work, but I just wanted to look and feel better. I had to concentrate on my health, as I had been neglecting it,” she adds.

On reasons for choosing Meri Pyaari Bindu, the 28-year-old says, “It was one of the sweetest stories I’d read. The moment I read the script, I felt this was the character that I wanted to return with.”

Talking about her connect with the songs, she says, “It has a lot of nostalgia value—many old songs that are reminiscent of the various chapters of our lives. I have songs for every event and every person in my life. That’s why I wanted to be a part of this film.”

On her chemistry with co-star, Ayushmann Khurrana, Parineeti says that the real-life bond that the two of them share helps a lot. “He is one of my closest friends right now. I have connected and bonded a lot with him off screen.”

She adds, “There is a lot of comfort when I work with him. He is a great co-star and not demanding at all. We both used to sing a lot on the set. The shooting of this film was a beautiful experience for me.”

Parineeti is not too perturbed about her film clashing with Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Sarkar 3 when it releases tomorrow. “If the film is good, it will connect with the audience. If people like Meri Pyaari Bindu, it will be a hit. No other film can stop that,” she says.
