The family which gave Kerala numerous talented artists is ready to add one more name to the list. On Thursday, Sreesankhya, the daughter of known Malayalam actor Kalpana, announced her foray into the Malayalam film industry with the film Kunjiyammayum Anjumakkalum.

Directed by Sumesh Lal, the comedy-suspense film will see Sreesankhya in the role of a 20-year-old, who plays mother to five 40-year-old persons. “We actually needed an actor who could take on roles like the ones ace artist Manju Warrier played in her youth. Our search stopped at Sreesankhya. I feel with her calibre, she will become the next Manju Warrier,” says Sumesh Lal.

Sharing her excitement on working in her debut film, Sreesankhya says, “Coming from a family which is blessed with so many artistes, there has indeed been some pressure. But the support from my family helped me overcome it.”

On why she chose to make her debut with this film, Sreesankhya says, “The character attracted me, as it was strong and different. This prompted to say yes to the movie.”

Kalpana's sister and popular artist Kalaranjini says, Sreesankhya is extremely talented and will have a bright future in the industry. “Kalpana was the most talented artiste from our family as she could play any role, whether serious or comic, with ease and perfection. Being her daughter, Sreesankhya too has inborn acting skills within her,” she adds.

Tini Tom is playing a negative character in the film, while Kalabhavan Shajon, Sreejith Ravi, Irshad, Pashanam Shaji, Binu Pappu and Sudheer Karamana also play vital characters in the film which will be produced under the banner of Abra Movies by Abdhul Rasheed and will hit theatres next year.
