Last year it was announced that a live-action Pokémon film was in development. And now, the latest update is that Ryan Reynolds has joined the cast of the Legendary Entertainment and The Pokémon Company’s joint production titled Detective Pikachu.
The Deadpool actor's role is said to be a motion capture one, with him providing his voice for the titular Pokémon. He is set to join Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton in this Rob Letterman-directorial, which has a script written by Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch.
Detective Pikachu will be distributed by long-time Pokémon film partner Toho in Japan, and by Universal Pictures outside of Japan. Although no release date has been announced as yet, production is set to begin in January 2018 in London.
Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds will next be seen in the untitled Deadpool sequel scheduled for release on June 1, 2018.
