We want the customers to enjoy the best of both PVR and SPI: Gautam Dutta

Sathyam Cinemas' merger with the national multiplex chain PVR announced in August, shocked ardent movie fans in the city. A significant number of them took to social media to share their doubts and discontent about the merger. Gautam Dutta, the CEO of PVR Cinemas, who was in town to introduce PVR Icon, the chain's new multiplex located in VR Mall asserts that the merger will only bring out the best of both PVR and SPI groups. "The merger makes no difference to the consumer, as the movie viewing experience is only going to get better for the viewer. We are making sure that viewers get the same service they've come to expect of SPI in our newly launched PVR Icon. We've even handed over the management to the SPI team despite designing and building this multiplex on our own. So the audience can rest assured that their favourite popcorn, cold coffee and service will remain intact."

Despite introducing a large screen format projection screen called P(XL), the multiplex chain has refrained from launching its premium features like 4Dx and gold class. Asked about this, the PVR head says, "We will be in a position to provide all our elite services once the Tamil Nadu government relaxes the ticket pricing and comes up with a flexible pricing system." He also adds that the current pricing scheme will not be a setback for the group, considering the consistent occupancy level of their screens.
