Surnames can never take you anywhere: Angad Bedi- Cinema express

'Proud to be a Bedi'

Actor Angad Bedi says although he is a very proud Bedi, his surname has helped him much

Published: 02nd January 2018

Asked if his surname has helped him, actor Angad Bedi, whose latest release was Tiger Zinda Hai, says, "Not at all. A surname can never take you anywhere. It's your talent and potential that take you places." But, he adds that he is "a very proud Bedi and I am very proud to be born to Bishan Singh Bedi (former captain of the Indian cricket team)."

He wanted his father to be proud of him, too. "And he was when he saw Pink. He likes the work I am doing. Let's see where I go from here."

Angad, who started out on the small screen, has appeared in films like F.A.L.T.U., Ungli, Pink and Dear Zindagi.

It was Shoojit Sircar's production Pink, which saw him play the misogynistic Rajveer Singh, that changed the course of his career, landing him projects like the web series Inside Edge and a role in the Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif-starrer Tiger Zinda Hai.

"Yes, I worked quite hard to get where I am, but I would say that luck also played an important role," he candidly admits.

While Pink got him noticed, Ungli had the opposite effect. "After Ungli, nobody wanted to work with me. Nobody signed me for nearly three years. But Shoojit da saw me at an awards ceremony and that's where I got found," he says, adding that sometimes, "timings don't work, so things don't work out."

The actor hopes Tiger Zinda Hai has exposed him to the audience and market that a Salman film commands.

Angad's next project is Soorma with Diljit Dosanjh. It is a biopic based on the hockey legend Sandeep Singh.
