‘Regular commercial formula has never fascinated me’

Director Navaneeth, who found success with his first directorial, Karva, is now onto his second film, Buckaasuura. The director says that he will keep it interesting from the title to the end credits.

About the unusual spelling of the title, he says, "The title Buckaasuura can be split into Buck, Kaasu (money), and Sura, meaning a person. In short, my film talks about the hunger for money in today’s world." Navaneeth also reveals to us that Ravichandran, who features in the film along with Rohit, was the creator of this title. "It was Telugu writer Raja Simha who gave us the one-liner, which was futher developed. We presented two subjects to Ravichandran, and he chose the story of Buckaasuura. He felt the title is very apt for the subject, which focuses on money," the filmmaker says.

Buckaasuura, according to Navaneeth, is a complete package, which has elements of horror, suspense, thriller, family drama and emotions. The film does not follow the set formula of hero-heroine, villain, comedians and supporting cast, he says, adding, "The regular commercial formula has never fascinated me. Story-driven films are always interesting, and that's how I want my films to be. So there are no positive characters as such, who bash up the villains. In fact both Ravichandran, as a rich businessman, and Rohit, as a corrupted lawyer, have their negative shades in the film. Who gets reformed and how that happens, is what the story is about."

While Navaneeth was associated with Rohit in Karva, this is his first time working with Ravichandran. Is the actor tough to handle? "We shared a good comfort level with each other, thanks to being in touch for almost two months before the film went on floors. He always gives his best when it comes to acting."

Buckaasuura also features Kavya Gowda and Sadhu Kokila. The film has music by Avinash and cinematography by Mohan.
