Location Diaries: Why this Kathanayagan lost his voice?

When Vishnu Vishal started shooting for Kathanayagan, he thought it would be a jolly ride. However, during the course of the shooting, the actor lost his voice.

Recalling the painful experience on the set of a massive bar that was erected at Binny Mills, he recalls, “We were shooting  a comedy-action scene with the villain, and I had to shout very loudly, at the top of my voice, while looking strained.”

The actor who is normally soft-spoken, says he was nervous and wasn’t sure if he could pull it off. “Believe it or not, we took almost two days to shoot this sequence, and I struggled to shout at that pitch. And in my over-zealousness to try and scream, I lost my voice temporarily. My mom was very upset about it, as she’d never seen me get physically affected by a film!”

Wiser for the experience, he and director Muruganandham decided to play it safe eventually. The duo dubbed Vishnu’s other portions first, and kept  the shouting scene for the very end. “I needed to rest my voice after the dubbing session,” he smiles.

That, of course, wasn’t the only tough moment for the actor. He also had to shoot some sequences with his father-in-law, veteran director K Natraj (of Anbulla Rajinikanth fame), who plays his father-in-law in the film. “While it was a special moment, I was deeply apprehensive. He was very cool about it though. After the shoot, he told my wife Rajini that I have improved a lot as an actor. I was relieved.”
