1. The next superhero film this year will be Bloodshot (March 13). Bloodshot follows the life of Ray Garrison who is brought back from the dead using nanotechnology that gives him superpower.
Bloodshot will be the first film adaptation from Valiant Comics and will start a cinematic universe, similar to MCU and DCEU. Created in 1992, Bloodshot is one of Valiant's best selling comics.
Vin Diesel will play the titular role of Raymond 'Ray' Garrison/Bloodshot. After Groot from the Guardians of the Galaxy films, this is the second time he is voicing for a comic book character.
2. Apr 3 will see the release of The New Mutants which will be the first horror film from the X-Men film series. It'll be about five mutants discovering their abilities while held against their will.
The New Mutants comics highlights interpersonal and group conflict and features an ensemble cast. Some of the characters, such as Blink and Warpath have appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014).
After Sophie Turner (Jean Grey) and Peter Dinklage (Bolivar Trask), The New Mutants introduces another Game of Thrones star in the form of Maisie Williams into the X-Men world. She plays Wolfsbane.
3. The much-awaited Black Widow film hits theatres on May 1st. Following the events of Captain America: Civil War, this film will have Natasha Romanoff confronting a conspiracy with ties to her past.
Co-created by Stan Lee himself in 1964. Black Widow was initially a Russian Spy who gets defected to the USA where she becomes an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D and later becomes a part of the Avengers.
Scarlett Johansson, who was a part of eight MCU films, will reprise the role of Black Widow in this prequel film that will also star Florence Pugh and Stranger Things fame David Harbour.
4. The sequel to the much-lauded Wonder Woman, titled Wonder Woman 1984 will be out on June 5. It'll see Diana Prince face two formidable foes in the form of Maxwell Lord and the Cheetah.
Created in 1941, Wonder Woman was inspired from early feminists such as birth control pioneer Margaret Sanger. Wonder Woman was one of the first characters to break the 'damsels in distress' trope.
5. July 31 will see the release of Morbius, the second film from Sony's Marvel Universe. The film will be about Michael Morbius, whose self-medication afflicts him with a form of vampirism.
Initially created as one of Spider-Man's villains in 1971, Morbius went on to become a brooding and tragically flawed antihero who struggles with his persona and eventually becomes a vigilante.
Jared Leto, who previously played the Joker in DCEU, marks his MCU debut with Morbius where he plays the titular role. The film, also starring Matt Smith, shares the same universe as that of Venom.
6. And speaking about Venom, the sequel to the 2018 film will release on October 2nd. The film will see Venom face off against Cletus Kasady aka Carnage who made a brief appearance in the first film.
Venom is a sentient alien Symbiote with an amorphous, liquid-like form who survives by bonding with another animal. Its first host was Spider-Man before merging with others, most notably Eddie Brock.
Tom Hardy returns to play Eddie Brock/Venom in Venom 2. While the first part served as an origins story, Venom 2 will follow the usual hero-villain archetype with Woody Harrelson playing Carnage.
7. The last superhero film of 2020 will be MCU's 25th film The Eternals. The film, which releases on November 6th, will see new characters and will be set following the events of Avengers: Endgame.
The Eternals comics, created in 1976 by Jack Kirby, is about a race of humanoids created by the Celestials who often end up in wars against their destructive counterparts, the Deviants.
The film sports an ensemble cast that includes Angelina Jolie as Thena, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Kit Harington as Dane and Lauren Ridloff as Makkari.
