Theatres in Kerala to remain shut for two days to protest against early OTT release

The Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK), representing theatre owners, has announced the closure of cinema halls on June 7th and 8th. They made this decision in response to the blockbuster film 2018 being moved from theatres to a streaming platform.

It was earlier reported that the producers from the industry have granted permission to release films on OTT platforms only after 42- days of the film's theatrical release. However, 2018, which was released in theatre on May 5 and grossed more than 160 crores at the box, has shifted to SonyLiv after 33 days of its theatrical run. The protest is conducted as a discontent against this.

According to reports, theatre owners have declared that they will be refunding tickets purchased for the screenings during the two-day strike.
