Kerala actor assault case: Survivor opens up on social media

In a move that is surprising and inspiring in equal measure, the survivor of the actor assault case that shook Kerala in 2017 has come forward to reveal her identity on social media, through her Instagram page.

In a statement, she wrote, "This has not been an easy journey. The journey from being a victim to becoming a survivor. For 5 years now, my name and my identity have been suppressed under the weight of the assault inflicted on me. Though I am not the one who had committed the crime, there have been many attempts to humiliate, silence and isolate me. But at such times I have had some who stepped forward to keep my voice alive. Now when I hear so many voices speak up for me I know that I am not alone in this fight for justice.”

The post has been shared by many in the Malayalam film fraternity including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Indrajith Sukumaran, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Tovino Thomas, Anna Ben, Geetu Mohandas, Nimisha Sajayan, and Samyuktha Menon among others.

The post comes in the wake of a fresh set of developments in the case and allegations pertaining to it against actor Dileep, following which the survivor had written to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to look into the matter.
