The election to choose executive members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) is currently underway. Mohanlal is most likely to be elected as the President of the body unopposed. The other members who have been chosen with no opposition include Edavela Babu, Siddique, and Jayasurya as general secretary, treasurer, and joint secretary, respectively.

However, there is no consensus on two posts of vice-president. Popular actor Manianpilla Raju and actresses Asha Sarath and Swetha Menon are competing for the said posts. Mohanlal has reportedly thrown his support behind Asha and Swetha and in the run-up to the vote, there is some full-time behind scenes lobbying that has reportedly taken place. As a result, Mohanlal has been criticized.

14 candidates are also running for the 11-member executive committee, and three of them -- Lal, Nasser Lathif, and Vijay Babu -- are not a part of Mohanlal's panel. About 500 people are expected to cast their vote on Sunday, December 19. After the general body meeting in Kochi, the votes will be counted and the results will be announced.
