Germany selects The Teachers’ Lounge for Oscars 2024 race

Germany has selected lker Catak’s schoolroom drama The Teachers’ Lounge as its contender for the 2024 Oscars race under the best international feature category. The film had premiered at the Berlin Film Festival this year, under the Panorama section. The film had won Label Europa Cinemas prize.
Starring Leonie Benesch, the film is backed by Ingo Fliess. It was also bagged five prizes at the German Film Awards, including the Lola in Gold for best feature film, and has been shortlisted for the European Film Award.
The Teachers’ Lounge portrays Leonie as an ambitious young teacher whose life unravels following a spate of stealing at the school. Leonard Stettnisch, Eva Lobau, Michael Klammer, Anne-Kathrin Gummich, Kathrin Wehlisch, Uygar Tamer and Ozgur Karadeniz are also part of the cast.
