Nalin Pan's Chhello Show to be India's Official entry to the Oscars

Pan Nalin's Gujarati film, Chhello Show, is India's official entry to the Best International Feature Film category at the 95th Academy Awards.

Expressing his elation on the nomination, Pan Nalin says, "I could have never imagined such a day would come and bring light and celebration of light. Chhello Show has been enjoying love and celebration of light. Chhello Show has been enjoying love from around the world but there was an ache in my heart that how do I make India discover it? Now, I can breathe again and believe in cinema that entertains, inspires and enlightens. Thank you FFI, and thank you, Jury."

After making a stellar run on the festival circuits, Chhello Show will hit the Indian screens on October 14.

Chhello Show stars Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval and Paresh Mehta.

While congratulatory messages started pouring in for the film and the makers, social media was also abuzz with the snubs to the other frontrunners — The Kashmir Files and RRR. In fact, the SS Rajamouli film, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, made a lot of noise in the West, and was considered to be the best bet for India at the Oscars. However, it will be interesting to see if RRR will be pushed independently by the makers at the Academy.

The last time an Indian film was nominated to the final selection list of the International Feature category was Ashutosh Gowariker's Lagaan in 2001.
