Dhanak, Queen Margot and Fallen Angels among MUBI's holiday additions

MUBI India has released its list of titles for the holiday season. Starting with Terrence Malick's Voyage Of Time today, the platform will add 19 more films to its December schedule. Shanker Raman's Gurgaon and Nagesh Kukunoor's Dhanak will join international favourites like Jane Campion's Bright Star and Wong Kar Wai's Fallen Angels. 

Here are some picks to look out for - 

Queen Margot – December 23,  2021

Catholic Margot, an heiress to the throne during the 16th-century reign of King Charles IX, finds herself trapped in an arranged marriage amidst a religious war between Catholics and Protestants. She hopes to escape with her Protestant lover but is imprisoned by her powerful and ruthless family.

Merci Pour Le Chocolat – December 23

A mystery by Claude Chabrol, the film was well-received at various film festivals including the Venice Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, and International Film Festival Rotterdam among many other festivals. When the wife of the pianist André dies in an accident, he remarries his first wife, the chocolatier Mika. Together with his son Guillaume, they live a perfect family life. But when the young pianist Jeanne arrives in search of a mentor, it becomes clear that not all is well beneath the surface.

Dhanak – December 24

Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, it showcases a 10-year old girl taking her blind 8-year old brother on a trek across Rajasthan in search of the superstar and goodwill ambassador Shah Rukh Khan. She believes he can help her brother get an operation to restore his sight.

La Cérémonie – December 25

A thriller by French director Claude Chabrol. Sophie works as a maid for Mme. Leliévre in Saint-Malo, where she befriends the outspoken postal clerk Jeanne. However, when Jeanne encourages her to rebel against her employers, Sophie is dismissed from her position. Brought together by their hidden secrets, the two women decide to take revenge.

Fallen Angels – December 26

Originally conceived as part of Wong Kar Wai’s Chungking Express, Fallen Angels is its nocturnal relative, a dark romantic thriller set against the nighttime cityscape of Hong Kong. The film charts the interconnecting fates of several mysterious characters in the dazzling neon metropolis, including a detached hitman hoping to leave his shady line of work behind, his elusive assistant who is secretly in love with him, and a mute entrepreneur with an unusual business scheme.

One from the heart –  December 29

A musical romantic drama by Francis Ford Coppola. Hank and Frannie live together in Las Vegas. After a five-year relationship, lustful and dreamy Frannie leaves down-to-earth Hank on the anniversary of their relationship. This leads them both to a night on the strip with mysterious new dream partners, in pursuit of their romantic fantasies.
