The trailer for Abhishek Sharma's Ram Setu is now out. An action-adventure in the mould of Dan Brown, the film stars Akshay Kumar as an archaeologist on a mission to save the Ram Setu, which has been slated for destruction.

Dr Aryan Kulshrestha (Akshay) is an 'atheist archaeologist turned believer'. His Ghar Wapsi happens when he's sent on an archaeological expedition to the India-Sri Lanka border. There, he unearths incredible secrets related to the Ram Setu, or Adam's Bridge, a chain of natural limestone shoals between Rameshwaram in India and Mannar Island in Sri Lanka. The bridge has religious and mythological significance to Indians.

Even as his mission falls in jeopardy, a faithful Aryan presses on, using a hi-tech exosuit to plump the depths of the Ram Setu. He finally emerges, victorious, carrying a large rock on his shoulders over the line, "There are many temples of Lord Ram in the world... but only one Setu (bridge)."

Ram Setu also stars Satyadev Kancharana, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Jacqueline Fernandez and M Nasser in pivotal roles. The film's idea had first come to writer-director Abhishek Sharma in 2007 when he read newspaper coverage about a court case related to a project to build a shipping canal in the shallow straits between India and Sri Lanka.

"I found this to be an opportunity to explore the truth behind an Indian legend and was amazed at the magnitude of the subject," Abhishek had shared. “It’s like I was being presented with the possibility to bring forward a true story that would connect generations of Indians to a part of our heritage that was not getting the attention it deserved.”

Ram Setu is releasing in theatres in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on October 25, 2022.
