A promo still of Pathaan

Yash Raj Films has announced the release date of Pathaan with a teaser. The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer film will release in theatres on January 25, 2023.

The one-minute-five-second teaser opens with John Abraham amidst his favourite objects: a bike, a flag and a chopper. "In our country we keep names as per our religion or creed," he says. "But he (Pathaan) had none of these." Then Deepika Padukone walks in, in a green tank top (with a burning tank in the background).

"He didn't even have anyone to name him," she continues. "All he had is this country, India."

Finally, we hear that gilded voice, attached to a shadowy figure in a white shirt. He walks up Lawrence of Arabia-style against a burning sun.

"...so he made his country his religion. And protecting it his duty."

SRK's look isn't disclosed, though a recent soft drink commercial has taken care of that. We also learn that Pathaan — played by Shah Rukh — got his name from his comrades. "For everything else, wait it out," he teases.

Pathaan is directed by Siddharth Anand (War, Bang Bang!). The film was shot in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Spain, and other places. Besides the primary cast, it will have cameos from Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan, who feature in other titles in a shared 'YRF Spy Universe'.

Pathaan will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. This is SRK's first release after a gap of five years.
