Disney+ Hotstar has released the trailer of Rudra - The Edge of Darkness. The crime series, adapted from Luther, marks the acting digital debut of Ajay Devgn.

DCP Rudra Veer Singh (Ajay) returns to action with a double murder case. He's sucked into a world of mystery and crime, with shadows looming over his personal and professional life. "Karna padta hai boss," he says to a charge of cruelty (Bajirao Singham, Ajay's other famous cop character, would simply shrug).

Directed by Rajesh Mapuskar, Rudra spans six episodes, and is set in a rain-slicked Mumbai.

Ajay is joined by Esha Deol (as Rudra's despairing wife). The cast is rounded out by Raashi Khanna, Atul Kulkarni, Ashwini Kalsekar, Ashish Vidyarthi and Satyadeep Misra.

Excited for the launch, Ajay shares, “The world of digital streaming has always fascinated me, and I am excited to make my digital acting debut into long-format content with a riveting character and title such as Rudra."

In Luther, which ran for five seasons, Idris Elba played a detective with an obsessive streak. This is reflected in the Indian adaptation, with DCP Rudra flipping over tables and agonizing over his work.

"What enticed me about the character is his nuanced, multi-faceted personality and his grit; something that viewers have never witnessed before at this scale in India," Ajay adds. "I am elated for my fans and viewers across India to witness the magic of Rudra come alive on screen and I hope they fall in love with the show as intensely as we have worked towards it."

Rudra is produced by Applause Entertainment and BBC Studios India.
