Mrs Undercover trailer: Radhika Apte hunts for a patriarchal killer in this spy-comedy

The trailer of Radhika Apte starrer Mrs Undercover was unveiled today. The spy comedy-thriller is written and directed by debutant Anushree Mehta. The film also features Sumeet Vyas, Rajesh Sharma and Saheb Chatterjee in pivotal roles.

The trailer introduces us to Durga (Radhika Apte), a clumsy homemaker, who was once trained as a special agent. Her services are now required again because a serial killer is on the loose. Described only as ‘The Common Man’ (Sumeet Vyas), the killer chooses strong, independent women as his victims. Rajesh Sharma plays Durga’s handler in the film who assigns her the task of finding the murderer. Now, Durga has to find the balance between her household chores and her call to duty.

Talking about her character, Radhika said, “In my very first narration of this film, I fell for my character, Durga. She is funny, kind, and sincere, and is also clumsy and unsure of herself. Every household has a Durga- a woman who quietly goes about her work and doesn’t get her due because she is considered ‘just’ a housewife. However, this film fights that mentality which prevails in our patriarchal society, and it’s done beautifully under the guise of humour”.

Expressing her love for spy comedies, director Anushree said, “Spy movies have had my heart for years and comedy is something I swear by. My first had to be a mix of both. And the need of the hour is of a masala entertainer headlined by a woman that gives out a message to every household that the homemaker, the woman of your house is capable of more than you think she is.”

The film will premiere on ZEE5 on April 14.
