Pop Kaun? Teaser: Saurabh Shukla and Johnny Lever spoof Pathaan scene, discuss the future of comedy

One of the highlights of Pathaan was the end credits scene where Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan sit on a railway bridge to discuss the future of Hindi cinema before deciding that the mantle, ultimately, is on them to revive Bollywood. Now, veteran comedy stars Saurabh Shukla and Johnny Lever recreated the scene to hilarious effect for the teaser of the upcoming Disney+ Hotstar comedy show, Pop Kaun?.

The show is created by Farhad Samji, who has previously helmed Housefull 4 and is also directing big projects like Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Hera Pheri 3.

The one-minute, sixteen-seconds teaser shows Saurabh and Johnny sitting on a bridge, much like Shah Rukh and Salman, musing over the future of Indian comedy. Johnny, who is imitating Shah Rukh says, “I can’t do this anymore. Sometimes I think it has been 30 years (doing comedy ) and I should leave all this behind me. But I worry who can take our place?" Then they ponder over different options before rejecting all of them. There is also a veiled reference to Kapil Sharma. “How about the guy who invites people on TV?” asks Saurabh to which Johnny replies, “No, no, not him.”

The two finally decide, “It’s about the country’s comedy scene, can’t leave on kids, we’ll have to do something.” “But how?” asks Saurabh, “Like this,” replies Johnny and the title of the show appear on the screen.

Produced by Yam Productions, Pop Kaun? promises to bring together the best in comedy. “After creating multiple movies in the comedy space, I wanted to explore a different format with this genre and bring all the legends of comedy together. With Pop Kaun? coming soon on Disney+ Hotstar, the idea was to create a fun family binge-watch show for audiences across generations," Farhad Samji said in a statement.
