Shah Rukh Khan on Twitter after Pathaan success: ‘I never saved anything for the swim back’

As Pathaan enjoys tremendous success at the box office, its lead actor and superstar Shah Rukh Khan took to Twitter on Friday to share some advice.

Quoting from the 1997 Hollywood dystopian science fiction thriller film Gattaca, which starred Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman and Lorena Dean, Shah Rukh said, “Gattaca movie “I never saved anything for the swim back” I think life is a bit like that….You aren’t meant to plan your return…U r meant to move forward. Don’t come back…try to finish what u started. Just a 57yr olds’ advice things.”

Gattaca is about a future society driven by eugenics where potential children are conceived through genetic selection to ensure they possess the best hereditary traits of their parents. The film centres on Vincent Freeman, played by Ethan, who was conceived outside the eugenics program and struggles to overcome genetic discrimination to realize his dream of going into space.

In the scene where Vincent says the dialogue quoted by Shah Rukh, he is swimming alongside his brother Anton (Lorena Dean) and playing the game of “chicken”. The brothers used to play the game since childhood, which includes swimming in the sea as far as possible and the one who returns to the shore first loses. Vincent had always lost to Anton. But this time he refuses to go back and keeps swimming ahead. Anton says, “How have you done any of this? We have to go back,” to which Vincent replies, “You wanna know how I did it? This is how I did it, Anton: I never saved anything for the swim back.”

Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan faced a lot of setbacks and was subject to a boycott campaign on Twitter. Its song ‘Besharam Rang’ irked many right-wing groups who claimed that Deepika wearing an orange bikini in the song is an “insult to Hinduism.” Despite this, Pathaan has managed to garner Rs 221 crore worldwide in just 2 days
