Pathaan makes over Rs 50 crore on Day 1 at the box office

Pathaan is creating a storm at the box office. Photos and videos of people revelling in theatres are going viral on social media, and are proof that Shah Rukh Khan’s return vehicle is off to a great start. As per early estimates, Pathaan's Hindi version has recorded Rs 50-51 crore net collection on day one at the domestic box office.

The film was released on Wednesday, a day before Republic Day 2023, in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages. It is directed by Siddharth Anand and also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham.

As per a report by Box Office India, "Pathaan has recorded a phenomenal opening day at the box office as it takes a Rs 50-51 crore net collection in its Hindi version, as per early estimates."

Early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk also suggest that the film has netted Rs 52.5 crore on first day. Reports also suggest that the film will enter the Rs 100 crore club on Republic Day.

On Wednesday, trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share Pathaan's estimated first day collections at national chains. According to him, the film did a business of Rs 25.05 crore till Wednesday evening, which was better than Hrithik Roshan's War ( Rs 19.67 crore) on its first day at multiplex chains. He tweeted, "Pathaan at national chains… day 1… update: 8.15 pm. PVR: ₹11.40 crore, INOX: ₹8.75 crore, Cinepolis ₹4.90 crore. Total: ₹25.05 crore. SUPERB. Note: Better than War [ ₹19.67 crore], TOH, Thugs of Hindostan [ ₹18 crore] and KGF [ ₹22.15 crore] – (their) entire day numbers at multiplex chains."

But despite this, Pathaan is battling for the top spot on the list of biggest-ever Hindi debuts in a tight race with the Hrithik Roshan-starrer War (Rs 53.3 crore), Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindustan (Rs 52 crore) and the Hindi dub version of the Kannada film KGF: Chapter 2 (Rs 53.9 crore).

However, as per reports, morning shows of the film were cancelled at some theatres in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city on the day of the film’s release following protests by right-wing organisations.
