The teaser of Dimple Kapadia and Radhika Madan’s upcoming series Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo was unveiled today. The series, directed by Homi Adajania (CocktailFinding FannyBeing Cyrus), gives a gangster twist to the saas-bahu (mother-in-law-daughter-in-law) trope.

The teaser starts innocently. A family is hosting a celebration. The matriarch, Dimple Kapadia, is doing aarti. The house is decked up with flowers. Women are doing garba around a fireplace. The Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi theme song plays in the background. But things take a turn as it is revealed that these women aren’t as domesticated as they seem. The teaser promises a lot of gunfire and gore. We also see Kapadia firing a shotgun.

Director Homi Adajania shared the teaser on his Intagram and wrote, “Chetaavani: Yeh kamajor dil vaalon ke liye nahin hai! Kripaya na dekhein. Kyun? Kyunki…. (Warning: This is not for the faint-hearted. Don’t watch if you have one. Why? Because…)”

The official synopsis of the series reads: “Saas Bahu aur Flamingo revolves around four inimitable women, the matriarch Savitri, her daughters-in-law, Bijli and Kajal, and her daughter Shanta who live in Hastipur – a forgotten village in the north-west. Savitri runs a company named Rani Cooperative, trading in products ranging from jari-booti balms to textiles. But everything here isn’t what it seems. Turns out, this cottage business is just a front for the biggest drug cartel being run in South Asia.”

The series also stars Angira Dhar, Isha Talwar, Ashish Verma, Varun Mitra, Udit Arora, Deepak Dobriyal and Monica Dogra.

Produced by Maddock Films, the series will start streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from May 5.
