The Sympathizer welcomes new cast members on board

HBO's The Sympathizer has added new actors to its cast.

It has been announced that Sandra Oh, Kieu Chinh and Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen are on board the espionage thriller in recurring roles. The announcement makes them the latest actors to join the cast, which already includes Hoa Xuande, Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Vy Le, Alan Trong and Robert Downey Jr

Based on  Viet Thanh Nguyen’s novel of the same name, The Sympathizer tells the story of a 'half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his resulting exile in the United States'. 

According to Variety, Oh will essay the role of Sofia Mori, a feminist who in a love triangle who has to deal with her Asian American identity. 

Popular filmmaker Park Chan-wook will serve as the co-showrunner along with Don McKellar. Chan-wook and McKellar will also double up as executive producers along with Downey, Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell Kim Ly, Rhombus Media and Moho Film.

The shooting of the show is currently in progress.
