The teaser of Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming period epic Shamshera was released on Wednesday. The film, produced by Yash Raj Films, is directed by Karan Malhotra. It also features Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor. It is set to release on July 22.

The first glimpse of the film shows the fictional city of Kaza. Set during the era of the British Raj, a warrior tribe is shown being imprisoned and tortured by an authoritarian general Shudh Singh (Sanjay Dutt). Ranbir is the bearded rebel Shamshera who fights to free his people. The teaser has wide-shots of arid landscapes, war sequences and Ranbir can be seen swinging an axe, in full action mode.

Announcing the teaser, YRF's tweet read, "A legend who will leave his mark. Shamshera trailer out on 24th June. Experience Shamshera in at IMAX in Hindi, Tamil & Telugu. Celebrate Shamshera with Yash Raj Films only at a theatre near you on 22nd July."

Shamshera is a visual experience that has been designed to treat audiences with a spectacle like never before," director Karan Malhotra said. "We are thrilled to release the film in IMAX, which will deliver the film’s visual extravaganza to audiences across the globe in the most immersive way. Shamshera is an entirely new concept for today’s audience, and, we feel, it is a visual delight given the uniqueness of the subject.”

"When we set out to make this film, we were clear that Shamshera would be best enjoyed on the big screen and in IMAX," he added.

Shamshera, which is set to be to released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, marks Ranbir’s return to big screens after a break of four years. His last release was Sanju in 2018.
