Director Prashant Nair (Umrika, Tryst With Destiny) has helmed a limited series based on the Uphaar Cinema fire in the 90s. Titled Trial By Fire, the series will stream on Netflix from January 13, 2023.
On June 13, 1997, 59 people died and over 100 were injured when a fire took over Uphaar Cinema in South Delhi during a screening of JP Dutta's Border.

The victims later formed The Association of Victims of Uphaar Fire Tragedy, which pursued a landmark civil compensation case and won. The tragedy is recounted in the bestselling book, Trial by Fire: The Tragic Tale of the Uphaar Fire Tragedy by Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy.

Prashant's series depicts the heartbreaking journey of the parents - Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy - who lost their two children in the fire. The limited series depicts 'their trials and tribulations in the pursuit of justice over twenty-four years while also looking at the other lives touched and destroyed by the fire.'
Trial By Fire stars Rajshri Deshpande, Abhay Deol, Rajesh Tailang, Ashish Vidyarthi, Anupam Kher, Ratna Pathak, Shilpa Shukla and Shardul Bharadwaj.

Talking about the show, director and showrunner Prashant said, “Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy are inspiring examples of the kind of resilience and fortitude it takes to move the needle even slightly in this country. What happened to them and the way they have been forced to fight for justice is truly horrific and, unfortunately, there are countless other people today in similar situations. We are grateful to Netflix for being such courageous partners in telling this story.”

Trial By Fire is produced by Endemol Shine & House of Talkies.
