During the Brahmastra press meet in Chennai, Ranbir Kapoor responded to the criticism he received for his comment on his pregnant wife Alia Bhatt.

Recently, during a live session on social media, while answering why they are not promoting Brahmastra in the way they do for other movies, Alia said, “We will promote the film, and we will be everywhere but if the question you are asking is why we are not Phailaod (talking about widespread promotion) everywhere, right now our focus is..." Ranbir quickly pointed at his wife's baby bump and said, "well I can say somebody has Phailaod (a reference to her getting fat), adding he meant the comment as a joke.

This comment left the audience unimpressed. Addressing the concern, Ranbir said, "It's a joke that didn't come across so. I spoke to Alia about it and she laughed it off. My sense of humour sometimes falls flat on my face. I apologise to those who got offended by it." Meanwhile, Brahmastra, which also stars Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni and Mouni Roy, will release in theatres on September 9.
