Filmmaker Ekta Kapoor has come in support of Aamir Khan, amidst calls to boycott his film Laal Singh Chaddha.

Calling the Khans of Bollywood ‘legends’, Ekta said that the actors have given the ‘best business’ to the film industry.

In an interview with Navbharat Times, Ekta said, “It is so strange we are boycotting the very people who have given the best of business in the industry. All the Khans in the industry (Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan), and especially Aamir Khan are legends. We cannot boycott them. Aamir Khan can never be boycotted, the soft ambassador Aamir Khan can not be boycotted.”

Laal Singh Chaddha had a dismal show at the box office. It released to an opening of just over Rs 10 crore, the lowest for an Aamir Khan film in 13 years. The film didn’t even pick up over the weekend and made about Rs 48 crore in 6 days of its release.

Calls to boycott the film have also been gaining traction on Twitter. This is in response to Aamir’s comments in 2015, where he said that then wife Kiran Rao wants to “leave the country” because of rising intolerance. Aamir is also being trolled for his “anti-Hindu” stance in the film PK.

Earlier, a New Delhi-based lawyer had even filed a complaint against Aamir along with the film’s producers for allegedly disrespecting the Indian Army and hurting the Hindu sentiments through Laal Singh Chaddha.
