Ahead of Darlings' release, #BoycottAliaBhatt trends on Twitter

Just a day before the release of Netflix’s Darlings, #BoycottAliaBhatt started trending on Twitter. Netizens have accused Alia of promoting domestic violence against men through the film.

The film’s story revolves around a homemaker Badrunissa Shaikh (Alia) who kidnaps her husband Hamza (Vijay Varma) and “treats him the same way as he had treated her.” In the trailer, Alia can be seen hitting Vijay with a pan, dunking him in water and feeding him food laced with rat poison.

Twitterati, however, wasn’t pleased with the film’s portrayal of domestic violence. Some Twitter users also compared Alia to Amber Heard.

Before this #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha had started trending on Twitter over Aamir Khan’s comments on the country a few years back.

Darlings also star Shefali Shah and Roshan Mathew. It is directed by debutante Jasmeet K Reen. The film will start streaming on Netflix on August 5.
