2 States actor and Parinda screenwriter Shiv Kumar Subramaniam passes away

Noted actor and screenwriter Shiv Kumar Subramaniam passed away in Mumbai on Sunday night. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Shiv's son Jahaan had also died in February this year. The actor's funeral will be held in Andheri (West), in Mumbai today.

Director Hansal Mehta and actor Ayesha Raza Mishra posted a statement on social media announcing Shiv's demise. "With profound and heartfelt grief, we wish to inform you of the passing of one of the most dignified and noble souls to inhabit human form - our dearest Shiv Subrahmanyam. Incredibly talented, he was much loved and revered personally as well as professionally," read the statement.

Shiv was last seen in the Netflix film Meenakshi Sundareshwar, where he played the role of Sanya Malhotra's father. As an eminent screenwriter, he wrote the screenplay of Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Parinda in 1989. He was also credited as a writer for films like 1942: A Love StoryIs Raat Ki Subah NahinArjun PanditChameliHazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Teen Patti. He also won Filmfare awards for Best Story and Best Screenplay for Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Parinda respectively.

He later started acting and played supporting roles in movies such as 2 States, Nail Polish, Rocky Handsome, Hichki, Happy Journey, Risk, Prahaar, Ungli, Bangistan, Kaminey, Stanley Ka Dabba and more. His performance as a dementia-afflicted man was notable in the film Tu Hain Mera Sunday. He also worked for TV shows like Mukti Bandhan24Pradhanmantri and Dead End.
