Nawazuddin has been nominated in the best actor category for his performance in Serious Men. Directed by Sudhir Mishra, the 2020 film was an adaptation of Manu Joseph's satirical novel of the same name. Nawazuddin portrayed a Dalit man who presents his son as a genius to move up in life.

Aarya, a crime-drama show directed by Ram Madhvani, has been nominated in the best drama series category. The Disney+ Hotstar series is headlined by Sushmita Sen.

"It is surreal to know that Aarya has been recognised globally amongst the Best Drama series in the world and to be nominated at a platform as prestigious as the International Emmy Awards is phenomenal," Sushmita, who made her streaming debut with the show, said in a statement. "I am overwhelmed with the love and faith viewers across the world have put into our labour of love and want to thank each one from the bottom of my heart for the encouragement."

Vir Das’ 2020 special For India is up for a Best Comedy nod alongside Call My Agent Season 4, Motherland Christmas Special, and Promesas De Campana.

Speaking about the nomination, Vir said, "I'm so honored to be nominated, but I'm just so happy it's for a show about my culture, and my people and how funny we are. The special was my love letter to India and this is just unbelievable.”
