Velma Trailer: Mindy Kaling voices Indian-American version of the popular Scooby-Doo character

The first official trailer for the HBO Max adult animated series Velma has been released online. The series is centered around Velma, one of the characters from the popular Scooby-Doo series. Velma is created by stand-up comedian and television writer Charlie Grandy who is best known for working in series like The Office(US).

Mindy Kaling voices the titular character and also acts as the executive producer for the series. Velma also has the voice talents of Sam Richardson, Constance Wu, and Glenn Howerton, who play supporting roles in the mystery-comedy series. As revealed in the trailer, Kaling, who is of Indian origin herself, will be adding her own to spin the character by making Velma a person of Indian-American origin.

Velma premiered the first episode of the 10-part series today, the episodes will be released in pairs every week. The series will focus on Velma Dinkley before she joins the Mystery Inc gang which also has Shaggy and his loyal dog Sooby-Doo.

Russel Peters, Melissa Fumero, Sarayu Blue, Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Cherry Jones, and Frank  Welker are also part of the cast.
