The much-anticipated trailer of Avatar: The Way of Water was released earlier today online, days after its global release on theatres on May 6 with Marvel's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The one and a half-minute trailer takes us back to filmmaker James Cameron's colourful, breathtaking world for yet another story that explores the darkest and brightest spaces of what makes a human and a Na'vi. According to the official logline, the film, set more than a decade after the events of the first film, tells the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

Earlier, at the CinemaCon 2022 event, Producer Jon Landau had revealed that Jake and Neytiri’s family will be at the centre of each of the four Avatar sequels. Each film will have a standalone story, but all of them will be connected and will sum up a larger tale.

Produced by Cameron and Landau, the film also stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi, and Kate Winslet.

Notably, it was also announced at CinemaCon 2022 that a remastered version of the original Avatar will be released in theatres on September 23, 2022. Avatar: The Way of Water will release in theatres on December 16, 2022.
