First look teaser out for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie

The first look teaser visual for Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film Barbie has been released online. The teaser visuals parodied the iconic opening scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey while also showing visual glimpses from the film, the end of the teaser showed Margot Robbie’s Barbie, and Ryan Gosling’s Ken, along with the toy-like world.

The film is based on the popular toy line by Mattel which started as a doll and expanded into multiple accessories, clothing lines, animation, and other media. This is the first feature-length adaptation of the toy line. The film is directed by Greta Gerwig based on a screenplay she wrote with filmmaker Noah Baumbach. Gerwig is known for critically acclaimed films like Lady Bird and Little Women. The music for the film is composed by Alexandre Desplat who earlier collaborated with the director in the 2019 film Little Women.

Apart from Robbie and Gosling, the film also stars Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, and America Ferrera in supporting roles. Barbie is currently scheduled to release on 21 July 2023.
