Filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón released the first-look of Cate Blanchett's character from his AppleTV+ series Disclaimer, alongside the release date. Sharing the actor's image on Instagram, Cuarón wrote, "Any resemblance to persons living or dead is not a coincidence," and disclosed October 11 as the streaming release date. The initial two episodes will release simultaneously, and new episodes will follow each Friday until November 15. Billed as a psychological thriller, the show also stars Kevin Kline.
Based on Renée Knight's novel Disclaimer, the show revolves around Blanchett's Catherine Ravenscroft, a journalist who "built her reputation revealing the misdeeds and transgressions of others.” According to the logline, "When she receives a novel from an unknown author, she is horrified to realize she is now the main character in a story that exposes her darkest secrets. As Catherine races to uncover the writer’s true identity, she is forced to confront her past before it destroys both her own life and her relationships with her husband Robert (Sacha Baron Cohen) and their son Nicholas (Kodi Smit-McPhee).”
The cast also includes Lesley Manville, Louis Partridge, Leila George, and Hoyeon.
The series reunites Cuarón with his Birdman and Gravity cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki. Another Academy Award winner Finneas O’Connell is the music composer.
