Netflix releases first look of The Diplomat

The show is set to stream premiere on April 20

The first look poster of Netflix's upcoming political thriller drama series The Diplomat was released by the makers on social media on Friday. The show is set to stream from April 20, the platform announced. The series features Kate Wyler and will consist of eight episodes spanning one hour each.

The show is created by Debora Cahn and features Kate as US Ambassador to the UK. David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear and Ato Essandoh are also part of the cast.

The Diplomat is a show about the transcendence and torture of long-term relationships. It’s hard to keep a relationship going, be it a marriage or a military alliance. We change, the world changes, and yet we want these relationships to go on forever. It’s a show about a bunch of good people doing their best to keep their global and personal partnerships intact without killing each other. In the world of diplomacy, you’re dealing with a lot of rule-bound, protocol-driven behavior, but underneath all that, these are people who sweat, and spill coffee on their clothes, and forget the name of the person they’re talking to. All of that is always bubbling under the grandeur and majesty of working with heads of state,” said Debora in a statement.

Also executive produced by Debora, Simon Cellan Jones will direct the show and executive produce the first two episodes. The Diplomat was shot in the UK and Paris.
