Ben Affleck's Air to be closing film at SXSW Film and Film Festival

We had earlier reported that Ben Affleck directorial Air will be a biopic about how the partnership between Michael Jordon and Nike. Air will be the closing film at the ongoing SXSW Film & Film Festival prior to its release in theatres on April 5.

Air will be set against the backdrop of sportswear industry and how the iconic Air Jordan became a prominent name in basketball history. The film will throw light on the story of marketing genius Sonny Vaccaro, who played a major role in Nike and Mike’s collaboration. Sonny was also the brain behind Jordon signing his first sneakers deal, which went on to become the most successful marketing partnerships in history.

Ben Affleck has crafted an exceptional film filled with outstanding performances that capture the emotional ride behind the creation of this legendary brand. We know it will be a true one-of-a-kind experience for our SXSW crowda,” Claudette Godfrey, VP of Film & TV, SXSW, said in a statement.

The cast includes Viola Davis as Michael’s mother Deloris Jordan, Matt Damon play a Nike executive, and Ben himself as Nike co-founder Phil Knight. Others part of the cast are Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Matthew Maher, Marlon Wayans, Jay Mohr, Julius Tennon, and Chris Tucker.

Air has script by Alex Convery and backed by Affleck, Damon, Peter Guber, Jason Michael Berman, David Ellison, Jeff Robinov, and Madison Ainley.
