Oscars 2023: Navalny wins Best Documentary Feature Film, All That Breathes misses out

India had been nominated in three categories in the 95th Academy Awards. Out of the three, Shaunak Sen's documentary All That Breathes, had been nominated for the Documentary Feature Film category. Unfortunately, Navalny, another documentary bagged the award as All That Breathes failed to make the cut.  

The other nominees in the documentary feature film category include All the Beauty and the BloodshedFire of Loveand A House Made of SplintersNavalny revolves around  Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and events related to his poisoning.

All That Breathes revolves around two brothers and the birds they try to rescue from the smog-filled city of Delhi they live in. The documentary had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival 2022 in January last year. It bagged the Grand Jury Prize in World Cinema Documentary Competition.

The documentary was also selected for screening at the Cannes Film Festival, 2022 under the special screening section. It subsequently won the Golden Eye award for best documentary.

Apart from this, the song Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli’s RRR has also made it to the nominee list in the Original Song category while the documentary short The Elephant Whisperers has been selected in the Documentary Short Film segment. While we haven't won, All That Breathes has made India proud, all the same.
