James Ponsoldt to direct Marvel's Wonder Man series?

The Wonder Man, Disney+ series has landed a new director. Speculations are rife that The Spectacular Now director James Ponsoldt will be helming the show. The series comes under phase five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and will follow the adventures of Simon Williams, also known as Wonder Man. 

According to the reports by Discussing Film, James Ponsoldt is on board to direct a currently-unknown number of episodes of Wonder ManShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton will reportedly executive produce and possibly direct an episode or more. Andrew Guest, a writer-producer of comedies such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community, will serve as head writer. 

The Wonder Man was first featured as a villain-turned-hero in 1964 on the pages of comic book Avengers No 9. He holds various superpowers, including iconic energy manipulation, teleportation, and strength. 

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been tapped for the lead role, and Ben Kingsley will reprise his role as Trevor Slattery in the upcoming Marvel series. Bob Odenkirk is also rumoured for a role in the series.

Apart from The Spectacular Now, James Ponsoldt’s previous credits include The Circle, Master of None and Shameless.
