Adam McKay reacts to RRR Oscar row

The Gujarati film, Chhello Show, has been chosen as the official entry

Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Adam McKay is the latest prominent name to react to India not submitting RRR as its official entry to the upcoming Oscars. Reacting to a journalist's tweet about "India snubbing RRR," McKay called the development a "travesty".

While quote-tweeting the journalist's tweet, McKay wrote, "This is a travesty. But let’s make sure it gets a best picture nom. Can we do a screening at the Rose Bowl? (How amazing would that be?)"

The decision of Film Federation of India to not choose RRR as this year's official entry has been met with vehement responses from Indian film buffs, who called it a lost opportunity considering the popularity RRR enjoyed among western audiences.

While the Gujarati film, Chhello Show, has been chosen as the official entry, the US distributor of RRR revealed their plans to submit the film in all major general categories, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. The film, directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan, is one of the biggest hits in Indian cinema.
