Disney unveiled the first look image for their upcoming animated film titled Wish, starring Ariana Debose. Debose is known for her roles in the acclaimed stage play Hamilton and Steven Spielberg’s 2021 adaptation of West Side Story. The announcement was made at the live panel at Disney’s fan event D23 expo on Friday.

Made in the typical style of a classic Disney animated musical, Wish is expected to release in November 2023, which coincides with Disney’s 100th anniversary. The film will follow the story of a young woman who sees the darkness in her kingdom that no one seems to notice. Her impassioned pleas bring down a star to earth. Alan Tudyk will reportedly voice a goat named Valentino, who wishes to communicate with others.

The film will be directed by Chris Buck & Fawn Veerasunthorn, based on a script co-written by Jennifer Lee. Lee has worked on films like Frozen, Wreck-it-Ralph, and Zootopia. Singer/Songwriter Julia Michaels will reportedly compose music for the film. The film will use 3D animation along with a combination of watercolour styles reminiscent of older Disney musicals.
