Watchmen showrunner Damon Lindelof to create new Star Wars project

Damon Lindelof, known for creating shows like Watchmen, Lost, and Leftovers, is reportedly developing a new Star Wars film for Lucasfilm. The film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, best known for films like A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness and the Academy Award Winning Documentary Saving Face. She also became the first Pakistani filmmaker to join Marvel by directing episodes of the Disney+ series Ms.Marvel.

Reports suggest that Lindelof will be writing the film but it has not been confirmed who the co-writer is. Since the project is currently in the writing stage, production for the film is not expected to begin until next year. Disney resurrected the Star Wars franchise with Star Wars: Force Awakens in 2015, which featured a new set of characters.

The sequel trilogy, which ended in 2019 with JJ Abrams’ Rise of the Skywalker received mixed reactions which prompted the president of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy to put the franchise on the backburner by not greenlighting any big-budget feature films. Reports suggest that Lucasfilm wants to take time to develop their upcoming Star Wars films so the Lindelof-headed Star Wars project might take its time to arrive at the theatres.

It was earlier reported that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is attached to direct the feature-length adaptation of Marcus Sakey’s novel Brilliance starring Will Smith in the lead.
