Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming adaptation of the popular video game series Gran Turismo has started filming. The screenplay for the film is written by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin and is based on the true life story of Jann Mardenborough, a video game player who used his gaming skills to win real-life racing competitions.
Gran Turismo is produced by Columbia Pictures, PlayStation Productions, and Trigger Street Productions while Sony Pictures is releasing the film. Sony Pictures announced the beginning of filming with a behind-the-scenes picture of race cars lined up at the starting line. Archie Madekwe plays the lead in the film while David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Darren Barnett, Djimon Hounsou, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Daniel Puig, Josha Stradowski, and Thomas Kretschman play supporting roles in the film.
Madekwe is known for films like Midsommar, Teen Spirit, and Voyagers while filmmaker Blomkamp is known for sci-fi films like District 9 and Chappie. Stephen Barton, who recently composed music for the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, has been roped in to compose the music for Gran Turismo. The film is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on 11 August 2023.
