The official title for the sequel of the 2021 Monsterverse film Godzilla vs. Kong has been confirmed as Godzilla and Kong. The title was announced following the end of the film’s production. The title suggests that Godzilla and King Kong, who faced each other in an epic fight in the earlier film will unite to fight against a bigger threat. Godzilla and Kong will be part of Legendary Pictures’ ongoing Monsterverse film series.

The filming for the sequel, under the working title Origins, started at the end of July in Australia. With individual films for Godzilla and King Kong having been released earlier, the crossover films started with the 2021 film directed by Adam Wingard. The upcoming Godzilla and Kong will be the fifth addition to the Monsterverse series.

The makers of the film have released an official synopsis for the film, which says, "Almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla [will be pitted] against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. The film will also delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever."

With a screenplay by Terry Rossio, Adam Wingard has returned to direct the sequel. Dan Stevens will play the lead while Rebecca Hall,  Brian Tyree Henry, Kaylee Hottle, Fala Chen, Alex Ferns, and Rachel House round out the cast. Godzilla and Kong is currently scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on 15 March 2024.
