Paramount Pictures has revealed that their upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender animated film will release on 10 October 2025. The production company is keeping details regarding the film under tight wraps but it has been confirmed that the film will follow the adult versions of the main characters from the original series. It is currently being called “the untitled Aang project.”

Lauren Montgomery is reportedly directing the film, she is known for directing a number of DC animated projects like Wonder Woman, Green Lantern: First Flight, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, and Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.

The film is based on the critically acclaimed Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series which was created by Michael Dante DiMartino, Bryan Konietzko, and Aaron Ehasz. Developed for Nickelodeon, the series premiered its three seasons from 2005 to 2008. Following the phenomenal reception of the series, a sequel series titled The Legend of Korra set several years after the events of the original, was released in 2012.

The series creators DiMartino, Konietzko, and Ehasz are on board as executive producers for the film; they had previously walked out of a live-action adaptation of the series being developed by Netflix citing creative differences.

The series is expected to stream on Paramount+ along with a number of other streaming services. It was earlier announced that Nickelodeon is planning to expand the franchise into a number of films and series.
