The first official trailer for the upcoming Whitney Houston biopic titled I Wanna Dance with Somebody has been released online. The film stars Naomi Ackie as the world-renowned singer, she is known for starring in films like Lady Macbeth and series like The End of the F***ing World and Master of None. The film follows the life and time of Whitney Houston, focusing on her meteoric rise to stardom, her fallout with her father/manager, and scandals, until her untimely demise on 11 February 2012.
Along with British Academy Television Award winner Naomi Ackie, the film also stars Ashton Sanders, Stanley Tucci Ashton Sanders, Tamara Tunie, Nafessa Williams, and Clarke Peters in supporting roles. The film is directed by Kasi Lemmons and based on a script written by Anthony McCarten. Lemmons is known for directing films like Harriet and Eve's Bayou while Academy Award winner McCarten is known for writing films like The Theory of Everything, The Two Popes, and Bohemian Rhapsody. Screenwriter McCarten also serves as a producer for the film.
I Wanna Dance with Somebody is being released by Sony Pictures and is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on 23 December 2022.
