SDCC 2022: First trailer for Black Panther sequel takes us back to Wakanda

Marvel Studios released a trailer for their Black Panther sequel titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at San Diego Comic-Con. The film takes us back to the fictional city of Wakanda as it prepares to go to war with an underwater kingdom ruled by Namor

The film crossed many productions hurdles like Covid restrictions, Letitia Wright’s anti-vax controversy, and most notably, lead actor Chadwick Boseman’s death. The actor, known for portraying T’Challa/Black Panther, died on 28 August 2020 following a long battle with cancer. The news came as a shock and surprise to fans and even his colleagues, as the actor remained silent about his condition till the very end. With the actor gone, the on-screen future of the Black Panther was left hanging. Back in 2020, the studio executives, along with director Ryan Coogler, announced that Chadwick would get a proper send-off in the sequel.

Among many speculations on how the sequel would move forward with the story, the makers recently released a trailer at SDCC last night. The emotional trailer also showed us the first look at Marvel's underwater kingdom ruled by a character named Namor-the submariner. Namor, the central antagonist of the film, will be portrayed by Tenoch Huerta. The Latin-American actor was brought on stage for the first time, at the Black Panther panel at Comic-Con, where he talked about the importance of representation in films.

The film brings back director Ryan Coogler from the first film along with the cast that includes Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, and Lupita Nyong'o. Daniel Kaluuya won’t be returning for the sequel due to scheduling conflicts. The cast will be joined by newcomers Dominique Thorne, Tenoch Huerta, Alex Livanalli, and Mabel Cadena. The film is currently scheduled to release on 11 November 2022.
