The much awaited trailer for the Lord of the Rings prequel series titled The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has finally dropped. The trailer, which was released amid controversies over casting, underwhelming posters, and a lacklustre teaser, seems to be gaining overwhelmingly positive reactions online.

Ever since Amazon Prime Video announced that they were adapting Tolkien’s fantasy novel, the fans have been equally divided between being excited and concerned.

The Lord of The Rings prequel series is supposed to be Amazon’s most ambitious project to date. The streaming giant is reportedly pouring $50 million into each episode.

The story is set before the events of Peter Jackson’s Oscar winning The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The first official trailer takes a deep dive into middle-earth, showing us a better look at the younger versions of Galadriel, Elrond, and Celebrimbor.

Like with any celebrated IP, the Lord of the Rings fandom is overly protective of their favourite characters and the fictional world they populate. As a result, along with all the hype and excitement, there was also a significant amount of disapproval and apprehension from the fandom.

Fans on twitter were concerned about whether Amazon could do justice to Tolkien’s legacy, speculating about the amount of creative liberties the series writers might take. Some fans even went on to question the need for a prequel.
